It is normal to feel sad and down at times. However, chronic sadness can evolve into depression, which is a common condition affecting mental health. Depression can influence how a person feels, thinks, and manages daily activities. It is characterized by persistent sadness, a lack of interest in previously enjoyed activities, and various emotional and physical symptoms. For men, depression often appears as anger or outbursts of frustration. While it is normal to experience sadness or grief, if your daily functioning is impaired for an extended period, you may be experiencing depression. In such cases, Christian counseling and depression therapy can be invaluable. If your family is being affected by your moods, it is crucial to seek assistance and mental health support.
There is much research and evidence that Christian counseling can be effective in overcoming depression. In my experience, by providing empathy and understanding, exploring your challenges, and offering coping skills, many of my clients experience improved mental health support and a reduction in their depression issues over time.
It's important to remember that with depression, one should never feel ashamed, weak, bad, or inadequate in seeking help. By utilizing psychological principles, a client's spiritual strengths, and focusing on physical wellness, there is hope for reducing and minimizing the difficulties associated with depression.
I provide a listening ear and compassion for the struggles you are going through, offering mental health support tailored to your needs. Through Christian counseling, I utilize a wide range of approaches to help you cope with anxiety, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Image Transformation Therapy (IMTT), and the Flash technique. See more information below.
This Christian counseling approach helps clients recognize challenging thought patterns, encouraging acceptance and the ability to take healthy actions based on personal values. By not struggling with our thoughts and emotions, we can diminish their power over us and their impact on our lives. While our thoughts and emotions may be uncomfortable, we can engage in virtuous actions that uphold our mental health support. In the pursuit of depression therapy, it’s essential to 'be a little comfortable with uncomfortable' — David Mora.
CBT is a widely-used, evidence-based form of psychotherapy that focuses on changing negative thought patterns and behaviors contributing to emotional distress. This approach is also beneficial in the context of Christian counseling, where individuals can explore their thoughts and feelings through a faith-based lens. By addressing irrational or harmful thoughts and behaviors, individuals can enhance their emotional well-being, manage their mental health conditions more effectively, and seek effective depression therapy that aligns with their beliefs.
The Flash Technique (FT) is a recently developed evidence-based therapeutic intervention that provides mental health support by reducing the disturbance associated with traumatic or distressing memories. Unlike many conventional trauma therapy interventions, including some forms of Christian counseling, FT is a minimally intrusive option that does not require clients to consciously engage with their traumatic memories. Research has shown that FT is effective in alleviating the disturbance level linked to severely painful memories, often in just ten to fifteen minutes. Similar to EMDR, FT employs eye movements or alternating tapping to help resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain, making it a valuable option for those seeking depression therapy and support.
This is a type of trauma therapy that serves as a gentle and thorough release of past hurts, fears, and the effects of trauma. Through Christian counseling, we utilize our God-given imagination and breath to release unpleasant emotions that reside in the body and mind. By doing so, we can deconstruct images of past hurts and fears, allowing their memories to lose the stranglehold they once had over us.
Similarly, we can apply these techniques to release the attraction to unwanted behaviors such as pornography, excessive drinking, eating, shopping, screen time, and social media, thus offering a form of mental health support.
